Man defiles tradition, disappears

Benard Okorhi has continued to receive death threats despite being at large by the village council of chiefs in Otujeremi, Delta Nigeria over his refusal of being crowned the village chief priest for igbe diety.

In a recent development, Mrs Joy Akpabio who is Mr. Okorhi’s mother in-law is the target of an attack by extended members of Okorhi’s family.


According to her, she has on several occasion, had altercations with these people as far as 2017 and 2021 and had reported this incidents to the police.

She said recently, three members of Mr. Okorhi’s extended family had harassed and threatened her with malicious threats, while accusing she and her daughter of being behind Mr. Okorhi’s refusal to carryout the traditions of the iIgbe diety in Otujeremi.

It will be recalled that sources close to Mr Okorhi, who rather prefer to remain anonymous for safety purpose, had sounded the alarm in May 16, 2022 readout in which Okorhi was said to have disappeared because of his refusal to be crowned the village chief priest citing his strong Christianity.

However, Akpabio said she is worried that these individuals are capable of killing her son in-law because of their tradition, noting that they are very violent, while expressing fear for her life.

She is quoted as saying: “I love my son in-law, they want to kill him and I just don’t know what to do. I am terrified.”
