Man kills six-year-old daughter in Delta community

A man identified as Stanley Ovemureye has reportedly killed his six-year-old daughter, Abigail, in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Council of Delta State.

The Guardian learnt that Ovemureye allegedly committed the crime on June 15, at Uviama New Layout, and escaped into thin air.

It was gathered that the father smashed the girl’s head to the wall several times.


Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed sadness over the act. Confirming the development yesterday, spokesperson for Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, said the sad and painful incident was reported to the police by the fleeing suspect’s brother.

He said: “The DPO, on receipt of the complaint, detailed operatives who went to the scene at Uviama New Layout and recovered the corpse, which was deposited at a mortuary.

“The police are on top of the situation, as there is a serious manhunt for the fleeing suspect. Members of the public are assured that the suspect will be arrested and justice will be served.”

Also, operatives of the command arrested 50-year-old Kokoro Agbuna Sajere for sexually abusing an eight-year-old girl (names withheld) in the Amukpe area of Sapele.

The incident occurred at the weekend, at Oghene road in Amukpe, where the victim had been staying with her guardian.

According to sources, the suspect lured the girl into his house during odds hours and threatened to kill her if she told anyone

However, after she started experiencing pain in her private parts, she confessed to her uncle what happened between her and Kokoro

The suspect, who initially denied the allegation, later confessed to the crime and was arrested.
