AS President Muhammadu Buhari prepares to probe corrupt government officials and their cohorts, the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins has said that there should be no sacred cow in his effort to rid the nation of corruption.

Speaking with newsmen recently on the occasion of his third installation anniversary, Archbishop Martins, while commending the President for abiding by the wishes of the people regarding the rejection of same sex marriage, equally wants President Buhari to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the mind-boggling sums of money carted away by corrupt public officials to foreign nations.

If the war against corruption is to be won, then every effort must be made to identify the location of all ill-gotten wealth, penalise those found guilty, and block all loopholes in government ministries and parastatals.

We reiterate again that it is not enough to jail people, but more importantly to assure reparation by paying back such ill-gotten wealth to the coffers of the nation,” he said.

Calling on the President to ensure that the war against corruption is credible, the cleric added: “No one must be spared, no matter how highly placed, as this would serve as deterrent to others.”

The Archbishop also wants the government to restructure and empower law enforcement agencies such as the police, ICPC and EFCC to make them truly alive to their responsibilities.
