Meadow’s family berates Ubani over Monkey Village demolition

Onyekachi Monday Ubani

The family of Gilbert Oladeinde Meadow has berated former Vice President, Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Monday Ubani, for raising alarm over the ownership of Monkey Village and the demolition of over 200 shanties within the village.

The family alleged that Ubani, in a social media post, faulted the demolition, saying it was illegal and was carried out by land grabbers, purportedly working with officials of Lagos State Government in person of Engr. Abiodun Ariori.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, stated that the demolition exercise was done after a petition to Lagos State Special Taskforce on Land Grabbers and the approval of the Ministry of Justice.

Speaking on behalf of Meadow’s family, Abiodun Ariori noted that court’s judgment and other documents confirmed that the family of Gilbert Oladeinde Meadow was the legitimate owner of the land.

Aroiri bemoaned the libelous publication made against him, calling him a land grabber.

When contacted, Ubani, via a telephone call, said the land has a certificate of occupancy of over 30 years and the matter is presently in court.

He alleged that Ariori took laws into his hands by deploying self-help to dislodge the illegal occupants of the said property.
