Megan Thee Stallion, the chart-topping rapper, has recently graced the cover of Women’s Health magazine, showcasing not only her toned body but also her vulnerable side.

In the interview, she revisited the traumatic chapter of her life involving Tory Lanez, who was convicted of shooting her in July 2020, shedding light on the aftermath of the incident.

Megan said: “”Before I went onstage, I would be crying half the time because I didn’t want to [perform], but I also didn’t want to upset my fans. I didn’t want to get [out] from under the covers. I stayed in my room. I would not turn the lights on. I had blackout curtains.

“I didn’t want to see the sun. I knew I wasn’t myself. It took me a while to acknowledge that I was depressed. But once I started talking to a therapist, I was able to be truthful with myself.”

Megan Thee Stallion also shared her remarkable physical transformation, attributing her fit physique to a combination of dietary changes and rigorous workouts.

“The rapper shared that she swapped whole meals for smoothies, cut out soda and juice, and switched from cognac to tequila.

Additionally, she embraced regular weight training sessions, which she described as her saving grace during challenging times.

However, amidst her physical transformation, she confronted dark times having to deal with the aftermath of the shooting incident and the immense pressure that followed.

“I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me.

“As a Black woman, as a darker Black woman, I also feel like people expect me to take the punches, take the beating, take the lashings, and handle it with grace. But I’m human.” she revealed.

Discussing her new music, she shared her inspiration for creating an album about rebirth, emphasizing her journey of becoming a new person physically and mentally. “I am very much a flower, but my flower has thorns,” she reflected.

Leading up to the Tory Lanez trial, several rappers, including Drake, used her injury as a punchline in their music. Drake’s lyric in the song “Circo Loco” sparked controversy: “This b*tch lie ‘bout gettin’ shots, but she still a stallion”

In July 2020, Canadian rapper Tory Lanez shot fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion during an argument after a party in Hollywood Hills. The incident left Megan with bullet fragments in her foot, requiring surgery. Lanez was found guilty on three gun-related charges in December 2022 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
