Mercy is a mystery. It is God’s bail out or rescue system for His people. It is not just a provision for sinners to know the Lord, but a plan for man, regardless of his qualifications or sin, to be at peace with God. In fact, the only qualification for mercy is for man to cry out to God (Exodus 3:7).
The mercy of God is the opportune time for believers to enjoy God’s favour. When mercy shows up, it brings God’s help. Mercy operates with time; it gives a second chance opportunity. It is the secret of the Jews to turn battles around by invoking God’s mercy.
Psalm 102:13, says: Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.
When you get to the end of the road, provoke His mercy. … Return, O Lord, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants. O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days…Psalm 90:12-17
Samson failed and his eyes were plucked out. He was mocked, but he cried for mercy and his hairs grew again. David at different cases invoked God’s mercy and he was not consumed.
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness,” Lamentation 3:22-23. It is on this ground that he said: “Rejoice not over me.’ Because mercy will show up. Therefore I will look unto the Lord … when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me,” Micah 7:7-8.
There were two condemn criminals on the cross. One scorned Jesus and the other provoked mercy. The man that provoked mercy said to the other: “Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? … but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, verily I say unto thee; today, shalt thou be with me in paradise,” Luke 23:40-43.
Where there is no mercy you receive the full punishment of your crime, but with mercy comes forgiveness. In place of judgment and condemnation you receive mercy.
