Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has unveiled a blueprint for tackling Nigeria’s perpetual challenges, setting the agenda for the incoming administration.
Mimiko, who spoke at the 2023 Change and Development Forum, organised by Dare Adeboye Foundation, held at The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Redemption Camp, yesterday, stressed the need for accountability in governance.
He further said that good governance and accountability bring about economic growth and development, noting that development must show in the citizens’ quality of life.
The former governor said that economic growth without development is a philosophy of the cancer cell.
Speaking on the Freedom of Information Act, Mimiko said it’s an important instrument in the accountability of the country, noting that the Act is the foundation of open system of governance in Nigeria, directly impacting the citizens’ quality of life.
He said that an organisation that uses good governance is one that always, in words and action, demonstrates accountability, leadership, integrity, stewardship and transparency.
The former Ondo State governor urged the political leaders to provide power, and financial resources, protect local infant industries, including MSMEs and patronise Made-in-Nigeria products. He advised the new administration to unite the country by being fair as practicable as possible with a deliberate effort to make governance more inclusive.
Also, Senior Personal Assistant to General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Leke Adeboye, said the Foundation aimed at touching lives through building the nation, advancing the kingdom of God and advancing his vision that has now become Nigeria’s vision.
He further said that the Foundation had been pushing boundaries of touching lives through direct individual impact, community-based impact and national development through the initiatives of Kingdom advancement, youths’ empowerment, education, leadership and governance, sanitation and clean water initiatives.
Chief Executive Officer, Opportunik Global Funds, Kola Oyeneyin, said without equity and justice, the economy could not be developed.
Oyeneyin said the new administration should be transparent, leverage technology and invest heavily on data with inclusiveness.
