President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kassim Shettima met with the governors of the 36 states and ministers to discuss a new minimum wage for workers and other economic matters.
The 141st meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) was held in the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.
Before President Tinubu’s arrival, Vice President Shettima chaired the meeting with state governors, deputy governors, and ministers.
This meeting followed the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) decision two days prior to delay a minimum wage review memo for further consultations.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) met on Wednesday, promising that the ongoing negotiations between the government, private sector, and organised labour would result in better wages.
In his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, President Tinubu assured the Organised Labour that an executive bill on the new national minimum wage would soon be sent to the National Assembly.
The President is expected to decide on the ₦62,000 proposal from the government and private sector, and Labour’s ₦250,000 demand.
