Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen, has advise girls and women on menstrual hygiene, saying: “Young girls and women should not have to pause their lives because it is that time of the month.”
She spoke at an event to commemorate the World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
Tallen noted that the importance of adequate knowledge of good menstrual hygiene practices, stressing that access to menstrual hygiene products could not be over emphasised.
She said: “Females deserve to live in dignity with their heads held high. Both the government and private organisations should work together to ensure that poor menstrual hygiene is a thing of the past.
“Menstrual Hygiene Day is particularly important as it brings this conversation to the forefront. I would also like to thank Procter & Gamble (P&G) for their immense contribution over the years towards improving the lives of women across Nigeria,” she added.
MEANWHILE, P&G has donated over 8,000 sanitary pads to touch the lives of many girls through the adoption of proper menstrual hygiene management practices.
The gesture by P&G was in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Governor’s Wives Forum, the National Centre for Women’s Development, Raise Foundation, and Conversation Café.
P&G Senior Director for Africa, Global Government Relations & Public Policy, Dr. (Mrs.) Temitope Iluyemi, said it was partnering leading non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders to celebrate the day because of the importance of menstrual hygiene management. towards the overall health, well-being and education of young girls in the society.
Chairperson of the Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum, Chief Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, at the handover ceremony, expressed appreciation to P&G for the partnership.
