Themed, ‘Changing Trends in Advertising Education and Practice in the Era of Globalisation: The Nigerian Perspective’, the event, organised by the marketing communication industry sectorial groups and powered by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), is aimed at providing a forum for academics and students of Mass Communication, Advertising and other components of Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) to interact with professionals.
Director-General of ARCON, Dr. Lekan Fadolapo, said the event is a social responsibility (non-fee paying) programme widely supported by a plethora of advertisers, marketing communication sectorial groups and regulatory agencies, to promote town and gown relationship as well as sensitise participants to current knowledge, professional practices and skill sets required for success in advertising and related fields. It will also create opportunities for panel discussion on diverse areas of marketing communication theory and practice as well as creative pitch competition and more.
Professor of Public Relations and Advertising, and immediate past Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), Rotimi Olatunji, said the event “is in response to digitalisation, occasioned by globalisation and media technological advancements, which heightened disruptions in diverse areas of marketing communication scholarship, profession, including the media and regulatory environment, locally and internationally that the National Universities Commission (NUC), recently adopted advertising, public relations, strategic communication, information and media studies, among others, as distinct degree programmes in curricula of universities in Nigeria.”
Resource persons include the keynote speaker, Mr. Idorenyen Enanq; Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Kashere, Prof. Umaru Pate; Vice President of MIPAN, Dozie Okafor; Emmanuel Agu, Charles Odenigbo and Muyiwa Aleshinloye.
