Ministry workers yet to receive Oct, November salary arrears

WORKERS-PROTEST-PLS-USE CopyWITH just two days to Christmas, workers in the Federal Ministry of Education are yet to receive their October and November salaries.

A senior staff at the ministry told The Guardian in Abuja that although the Federal Government had earlier promised to pay the salary arrears before December, there was no sign that the promise would be fulfilled.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) had promised that government would endeavor to pay the salaries of all federal civil servants before the Christmas holiday.

The Director of Finance, Mohammed Dikwa, who gave the assurance in a recent interview in Abuja said: “I want to assure all federal civil servants that, God willing, they will get their salaries before Christmas because we will try as much as possible to pay them before that time”.

But, spokesman for the workers and head of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja, Amaechi Lawrence Uchechukwu, recently said he was not sure workers will be paid before Christmas.

His words: “It is not a good one and we are not happy that the salary may not come before Christmas, going by what we have heard. But we are already telling our members to be prepared to use their November salary for Christmas.’’
