Two policemen have been beaten to death and two others injured following a mob attack in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The incident occurred after a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the escort duty policemen, accompanying former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje, collided with a motorcycle carrying a woman and her child.
The collision killed all three individuals on the motorcycle.
According to reports, enraged youths from the Ikpeshi community tracked down the four policemen and attacked them.
Two of the officers were fatally beaten, while the remaining two sustained injuries.
The injured officers were rescued by members of the Edo State Vigilante Network and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident.
Nwabuzor also revealed that the four policemen belonged to the Police Mobile Force (PMF) 19 unit in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway, and further details will be released to the public once the investigation concludes.
