Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has pledged to deliver more good governance in 2024 to boost the state’s infrastructure.

Making the promise in his New Year message to Bauchi people, yesterday, Mohammed noted that the residents bestowed on him the mandate to govern for another four years.

He said: “We will, during our second tenure, raise the bar of performance and push the frontiers of progress, as well as socio-economic and political inclusion as our strategy for providing more dividends of democracy to our people.

“To this end, we will continue to deepen consultation, stakeholding and community engagement, which are essential for good governance. This stakeholder ownership will emphasise the rights and obligations of the citizens. For emphasis also, we consider it the inalienable right of the people to hold the government accountable to the taxpayer.”

According to Mohammed, it is gratifying to note that despite the paucity of funds, his government has not relented in its drive towards the provision of infrastructural and social facilities, especially in the areas of roads reconstruction, mass housing, urban renewal, and education.

“We have also recorded significant strides in reviving agriculture, economic empowerment and youth development,” he added.

FOLLOWING the assent to the Child Rights Bill in Bauchi State, Plan International Nigeria has tasked the government to come up with implementation framework to protect the rights of children in the state.

The governor had, last Thursday, signed the state’s 2024 budget into law and announced his assent to the Child Rights Bill passed by the House of Assembly.

The rights group, in a statement, yesterday, signed by its Communication Advisor, Yunus Abdulhamid, commended the government for the signing of the bill into law, noting that the passage of the bill marked an important milestone towards the protection of children’s rights in Bauchi.

He noted that Bauchi was the last, of the 36 states, to domesticate the child rights law passed in 2005 by the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Country Director of Plan International Nigeria, Charles Usie, commended the lawmakers and the governor for their resolve to ensure that children in Bauchi were protected by law and for living up to their commitment to pass the bill and ultimately sign it into law.
