A group of Nigerians staged a protest at the Nigeria House in London on Monday, calling for a thorough investigation into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.
The protesters, holding placards and banners, demanded justice and a comprehensive probe into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. They expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed and inconclusive autopsy results and urged authorities to investigate those present at the time of his death.
Mohbad, formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, died on September 12, 2023, at age 27, sparking controversy and outrage on social media.
In response, the Lagos State Police Command formed a special 13-member team on September 18, 2023, to investigate his death. This led to the arrests of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry. Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.
Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin announced in September 2023 that the autopsy had been completed, with results pending.

However, confusion arose when a US-based lab refuted claims by the Lagos State Government that the toxicology test was conducted at its facility.
On May 15, a pathologist testified in the Coroner’s Court that the autopsy could not determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to the decomposition of his body.
The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, had previously stated that the toxicology test was conducted at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA, a claim later denied by the lab.
