More citizens seeking restructuring, says Utomi

Clamour for restructuring to make Nigeria more productive, progressive and prosperous has continued to win more converts, especially from the northern part of the country.

Political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi, made the assertion during a parley with journalists ahead of the second Never Again conference to mark the 51 years post-civil war situation in the country, holding virtually on Thursday, January 14.

Speaking as the chairman of the event’s planning committee titled “Handshake Across Nigeria”, Utomi explained that the traditional stonewall against restructuring by northern leaders had begun to totter.

He noted that despite the huge revenue accruals to northern states from the Federation Account, the region has become poorer.

His words: “We believe that the time has come for a robust interrogation of the causes of the Nigerian-Biafran war to identify the fault lines that have retarded national cohesion and growth.”`
