Morris Monye appointed Chairman of Delta State Esports Association

Esports is a billion dollar business.

A foremost Nigerian social commentator and community leader, Morris Monye, has been appointed as Chairman of the Delta State Esports Association.


Monye’s appointment was announced by the President of the Nigerian Esports Association, Yahaya Maikori, on Saturday, January 6th , 2024.

In a statement made available to The Guardian, Morris Monye noted that Esports has the potential to empower and engage the teeming youths of Delta state.

He said: “ I have the utmost belief that together we will take message of Esports to the deepest parts of the state, engage and empower young people and ultimately make Nigeria a global power in E-Sports.”

Monye also vowed “to engage youths and use this to pull youths from poverty.”

Until his appointment, Monye served as a political adviser to the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

With the appointment of Monye, Esports, which is believed to be a billion dollar industry, might be a rallying point for economic rebound in the state as the Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is looking to diversify the economy of Delta state.
