MoveMint: Spearheading Africa’s leadership in Web3

Africa is one of the most diverse continents on Earth, with over 50 countries, more than 1,000 tribes, ethnic groups, and languages. Despite this cultural richness and diversity of thought, Sub-Saharan Africa’s technology infrastructure and production have often lagged behind the rest of the world.

Like mobile money, Africa’s adoption of Blockchain and Web3 technology is the fastest growing globally. The sector has been on the rise as cryptocurrency penetration continues to soar.

Studies by the African Blockchain in 2021 indicate that funding rose by 1,668 percent, growing from $5.1 million to $91 million from Q1 2021 to 2022. The dearth of standard financial systems and a massive populace, especially unbanked adults, accounted mainly for the acceptance and growth of Cryptocurrencies on the continent.

Due to these developments, we’re launching MoveMint, a groundbreaking collaboration between Mara and Guardian Nigeria, to continue Africa’s leadership in next-generation technologies and financial services. MoveMint is an informative journal that covers this organic citizen and youth-led shift highlighting the principal movers and builders and informing the policy makers in Nigeria, across Africa, and the diaspora.

Africa and her diaspora require a dedicated platform and a community to engage key stakeholders – especially those who can influence public policy. The continent and its leadership and the diaspora adoption outpaces other markets. However, ensuring that homegrown technologies and locally relevant policies are key to sustainable and mass adoption of this empowering technology is imperative. MoveMint will break down complex topics for the skeptics and the interested and delve in-depth for the “Blockchain natives” and true believers.

To achieve these goals, MoveMint will serve as a digital hub focused on reaching out to key players, initiating open and honest dialogues, and addressing any fears, uncertainties, and doubts (FUD) they may have. Through this process, MoveMint seeks to raise awareness, drive adoption, and establish a sound public policy around Web3 in Africa while building a robust community with deluxe building blocks for beginners available through Africa’s digital finance ecosystem – Mara and Read-to-Earn rewards provided by Nandi Labs.

“Our mission at Mara is to inspire a movement that enables the emergence of 21st-century Africa through universal access to Blockchain technology and the digital finance economy.

Movemint is one of the many important initiatives we’re rolling out at Mara to help accomplish this mission.

This partnership is significant to us because we believe that educating Africans on the powerful capabilities of the technology and how to harness it is an important task that must be carried out,” Chi Nandi,  Co-founder/CEO at Mara, maintained.

Experiential Events

At MoveMint, we’re committed to driving meaningful engagement and action among our audience and connecting them with Mara’s ambitious goal of training 100,000 individuals. It is the reason we’re developing innovative referral systems to encourage further participation and involvement.

To deepen our impact, the Guardian Nigeria will produce a weekly Web3 Policy Column in both physical (print) and digital editions, with frequent op-eds, flyers, pictures, and videos shared online and offline as appropriate.

And that’s just the beginning: each month, the Guardian Nigeria will host two Twitter Spaces featuring a diverse range of experts, facilitating dynamic conversations around the latest developments in Web3 technology. In addition, we’ll be hosting a monthly Web3 Policy Breakfast in Abuja, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss pressing policy issues.

To reach an even wider audience, we’re also planning a virtual Quarterly Web3 Policy Breakfast to engage with stakeholders and the general public to explore policy choices, formulation, and regulatory frameworks, pushing for policies that create a favorable environment for Web3 in Africa.

These are just some of the initiatives Movemint is starting with. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting events!
