Murder of Ekiti monarchs: Atayero demands emergency amidst rising insecurity

The Atayero of Aramoko Kingdom, His Royal Highness Dr Olusegun Aderemi, has expressed deep sorrow and outrage following the brutal killing of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, and Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, were reportedly gunned down by unknown assailants on Monday. A third traditional ruler, the Alara of Ara-Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped the attack.


Dr Aderemi, who also serves as the Nigeria Regional President of Occupational Health and Safety UK, described the incident as “sad and unfortunate” and called for immediate action from the government and security agencies. He emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The situation calls for declaration of emergency on security and safety matters, it is worrisome that revered monarchs can be assaulted and terribly murdered.”

The Atayero expressed concern for the deteriorating security situation in Ekiti, highlighting the vulnerability of not just traditional rulers but all citizens. He stressed the need for improved equipment and resources for security forces to effectively combat crime and ensure public safety.

Dr Aderemi urged the authorities to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He also offered his condolences to the families of the deceased, the Ekiti State Traditional Council, and Governor Biodun Oyebanji. He expressed hope for peace and safety to return to the state and prayed for the repose of the departed souls.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves through Ekiti and beyond, raising serious concerns about the state’s security situation. The Atayero’s call for decisive action reflects the shared sentiment of many Nigerians who demand improved security measures to protect lives and livelihoods.
