Mutfwang flays killing of teen, 35 cows in Barkin-Ladi, tasks security operatives

Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has condemned the killing of a 17-year-old Fulani herder and 35 cows by unknown persons in Ropp District of Barkin-Ladi Local Council of the state.

The Guardian gathered that the perpetrators were riding on motorcycles when they opened fire on the victim, which led to his death, while another person was injured.

In a statement, yesterday, by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor sympathised with the bereaved family, adding that the unholy act undermined his government’s effort to entrench harmonious living in the state.

He said his administration would no longer tolerate killing of innocent citizens, either in their farms or in any part of the state, while pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood.

Consequently, Mutfwang directed security agencies to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime and ensure justice for the victims.

He urged traditional, community and religious leaders, as well as youths and women, in the affected communities to collaborate with other stakeholders for dialogue to restore normalcy, while criminal elements within the communities should be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He condoled with the affected families and prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and heal the injured.

The herder, Dan Azumi, was hacked to death on Tuesday by unknown attackers, who killed the cows he was rearing.

The cause of the attack was yet unknown as at press time.
