N1.8m for grabs as DFA League kicks off next month

Chairman, Delta Football Association DFA, Chief Ken Nwaomucha, at the weekend, announced that the second edition of the state’s football league will kickoff next month with 24 teams vying for a N1.8 million prize money.

Speaking at an enlarged Delta State football Association (DFA) congress/ league draws at the weekend, in Asaba, Nwaomucha said the league champions would earn N1m, with the second and third place winners getting N 500,000 and N300,000 respectively.

Nwaomucha disclosed that the matches would hold in Oleh, Sapele and Asaba stadiums, adding that the league kickoff was delayed by lack of funds, as last year’s sponsor, Betnaja, did not sign up for this season.

He said that adequate preparations have been made for the competition to hold without hitches and urged participating teams to play according to the rules of the game.

“I am assuring you that the game will be played with the rules. But, let me plead with you to be of good behaviour. If you control yourself at the bench, the players will control themselves, too,” he told the coaches involved in the league.
