NAFDAC busts counterfeit Eva water production in Port Harcourt

NAFDAC Busts Fake Bottled Water Syndicate in Port Harcourt

A counterfeit Eva bottled water operation in Port Harcourt has been uncovered by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

Acting on a tip, NAFDAC, in a statement, said its officials raided a dilapidated shop disguised as a pool house on Pipe Line Road in Eneka.

NAFDAC disclosed that the raid revealed a disturbing process where suspects were found producing the fake water.

“Used Eva plastic bottles were refilled with contaminated water drawn from a paint bucket, filtered through a dirty rubber funnel covered with cloth,” NAFDAC tweeted.

It noted that counterfeit Eva labels were then applied to the bottles, corked with fake Eva corks.

One suspect, Chibunna James, was apprehended while loading the “adulterated water” for distribution.

While the mastermind remains at large, the agency disclosed that the seized products were confiscated and evacuated to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
