The Commissioner for Insurance, Sunday Thomas, said this at the PILA’s 50th-anniversary celebration, which was attended by experts in the financial sector and government officials.
Thomas urged PILA’s leadership to establish an ongoing partnership and synergy with the commission to foster a vibrant and robust insurance industry.
Recognising PILA as the oldest female professional body in Nigeria, he encouraged its leaders to continue their efforts in encouraging women’s participation in the insurance sector.
Thomas also advised the association to believe in a new era by nurturing transformative women leaders who could drive the industry towards a technologically-connected future and bring about a positive shift to meet the anticipated increase in demand and untapped potential.
Speaking on the significance of the programme to the sector, the President of PILA, Margaret Moore, said the association was committed to empowering and uplifting women in the Nigerian insurance industry. She emphasized that PILA provides a platform for women to thrive and excel while shaping the future of the industry.
To commemorate PILA’s 50th anniversary and in line with NAICOM’s objective of developing actuarial capacity, Moore’s team has produced a well-researched insurance textbook, which aims at democratising the knowledge of insurance in the country.
On the occasion of PILA’s 50th anniversary, Moore expressed the association’s desire to welcome other accomplished women professionals in the industry to its ranks.
