NANS commends Tinubu over Ekiti pupils’ freedom, calls for immediate rescue of other kidnapped vicrims

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded President Bola Tinubu for the successful rescue of the Ekiti pupils who were kidnapped by gunmen in Emure-Ekiti on January 29, 2024.

The umbrella body of Nigerian students in tertiary institutions also called for the immediate rescue of other kidnapped vicrims, even as it commended the efforts of security agents in ensuring that the abducted Ekiti pupils and their teachers were safely returned to their families.

A statement yesterday by NANS National President, Lucky Emonefe, said the spate of kidnappings in recent times is alarming and poses a threat to national security.

He said: “While we celebrate this victory, it is pertinent to urge security agencies to intensify efforts in rescuing other kidnapped victims in several other parts of the nation. The spate of kidnappings in recent times is alarming and poses a threat to national security. It is imperative that all hands must be on deck to put an end to this menace.

“Furthermore, we call on the government to provide necessary support and resources to strengthen security agencies in their quest to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the country. The safety and well-being of Nigerians should be a top priority for the government, and it must do everything within its power to ensure that citizens can go about their daily activities without fear.

“The members of the public should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or persons in their communities to the nearest security outpost. Collaboration between citizens and security agencies is crucial in tackling crime and ensuring a safe environment for all.”
