Nasarawa ethnic clash claim seven lives, many houses destroyed

Seven persons have been feared dead following a bloody clash over land matter between Gbagyi and Bassa ethnic groups in Kudu village of Toto local government area.

It all started with a disagreement over ownership of land between Bassa man who allegedly invaded into land belonging to Gbagyi man.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this at an executive meeting held at the government house in Lafia.

It was gathered that the Bassa man who was seeking a place of settlement after he was displaced from his community by warring Ebira, went in search of a place to settle to carry out farming activities.


Our correspondent gathered that the clash which started like a strike of a stick of matches had left seven people dead, many persons wounded with various degrees of injuries, and several houses and farm produce worth millions of naira destroyed.

Governor Sule however hinted that the government has waded into the unfolding security breaches in the Toto Local Government Area of the state.

According to the governor, security agencies have already moved into the community affected.
