National Theatre trains staff on wealth creation

The National Theatre Lagos, has conducted a one-day training workshop on marketing the National Theatre as a world-class event centre and entertainment hub.

The organisation also held another one-day programme on inter-agency engagement on the National Theatre approach to wealth creation.

The training with the theme ‘Marketing National Theatre as a World Class Event Centre and Entertainment for Management Staff and other Relevant Departments’, which was streamed live via Zoom, was meant to improve the marketing skills of the participants.

Speaking at the training programme, the General Manager/CEO of the National Theatre, Prof Sunday Ododo said that the training was sequel to the first National Theatre workers’ capacity building programme in 2020.

He said: “The communiqué from the training and the 22-point action plans I presented have greatly helped the trajectory of the National Theatre in 2021 as it prepared us in advance for the temporary loss of access to the complex.”

He recalled that despite the challenges posed by the ongoing renovation, the National Theatre has been busy in the year 2021 and its internally generated revenue attests to its productivity.

“What might have been a good excuse for ‘closing shop’ gave us an opportunity to open more branches such as the Marquee. Neither the COVID- 19 induced government directive that only a minimal number of staff be in the office nor the revamping and renovation works have stopped the National Theatre moving train because we were prepared ahead of time,” he explained.

He added that ongoing renovation, restoration and rehabilitating of the National Theatre met its end of the year work targets.

One of the resource persons at the training, an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Marketing and Founder and Lead Consultant, Itecs Global Associate, Rotimi Oladele said that the staff and management team of the National Theatre should all be involved in the marketing of the National Theatre and that charity should start from home.
