NEMA charges politicians to prevent electoral crises in Niger

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna, Operations Office, has enjoined political parties and their candidates to take proactive measures against violence before, during and after the elections in Niger State.

Head, NEMA Minna Operations Office, Zainab Saidu, stated this, yesterday, in Minna.

According to her, only preemptive measures will ensure peaceful and orderly electoral process.

Saidu reiterated that the agency was concerned about the potential of electoral violence and unrest, which can have devastating effect on life and property.

“The agency is calling on all political actors, community leaders, and citizens to exercise their franchise peacefully and refrain from any form of violence or intimidation during the election period,” she said, adding that prevention is best in disaster management.

She also advised politicians to caution their supporters to operate within the ambit of the law, urging them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and channel their grievances to the appropriate authorities.
