NEMA deploys search, rescue equipment for rainy season preparedness

Director General, National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, has ordered the immediate deployment of the agency’s newly acquired search and rescue equipment and consumables in readiness for the containment of disasters ahead of the 2024 rains.

She gave the order while on an inspection tour of NEMA’s warehouses to ascertain readiness in terms of relief stockpiles and operational equipment, yesterday in Abuja.

Umar emphasized the importance of timely response to disasters through proactive measures that include prepositioning of equipment and training of personnel that will operate lifesaving assets in the event of sudden onset disasters across Nigeria.

In a statement by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, (PRO), Ezekiel Manzo, She directed that there should be regular stocktaking of relief items in NEMA warehouses nationwide, including dates of expiry, for timely deployment to persons in need in the event of an emergency.

The tour was the first since her recent assumption in office as director general of the disaster management and humanitarian agency.
