The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the upgrade of an additional 19 feeders from Band B to Band A for Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

The management of Ikeja Electric confirmed this development on Monday in a post on its X handle.

“Premised on our demonstrated ability to consistently provide a minimum of 20 hours of daily availability during a performance evaluation period monitored by the regulator, we are pleased to announce that we have obtained approval to add 19 additional Band A feeders to our network,” IE said.

This latest approval by NERC brings to 104 the total number of feeders on Ikeja Electric from the previous 85 feeders.

The new additional 19 feeders which were upgraded from Band B to Band A were approved following NERC’s thorough review of IE’s ability to supply 20 hours of electricity daily.

Ikeja Electric had earlier on Monday announced that it will reduce the cost of electricity tariffs on Band A feeders.

The management disclosed this in a statement, saying that the downward tariff will be effective on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Ikeja Electric spokesperson said the implementation of the downward review of electricity tariffs complies with an order from NERC.

It stated that Band A feeders from N225/kwh to N206.80/kwh with guaranteed availability of 20 to 24 hours supply daily.

The electricity company added that the tariff for Bands B, C, D and E remains unchanged.
