Newly inducted 192 medical lab scientists charged on professionalism

One hundred and ninety-two graduates of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, have been certified members of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

At the induction ceremony, held at the University Auditorium, at the weekend, the Registrar, MLSCN, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, urged the new inductees to prioritise human lives over money making, and always uphold the ethics and code of conduct of the profession.

Erhabor, represented by the Director, Professional Regulations and Discipline, Dr. Greg Uchunor, reminded them of the peculiarities and sensitivity of their profession and also charged them to practice with diligence and fear of God.

He expressed worry that some medical laboratory scientists, especially newly certified ones, tend to play down accurate reports of diagnosis and saving lives, but focus more on how to make money.

He said: “Importantly too, you must strive, at all times, to eschew all manner of professional misconduct, and uphold ethical standards that define our profession.

“The council also has zero tolerance for all forms of unethical conduct, and will not stand by while anyone brings its good name or that of the profession to disrepute.”

“Some of the pioneers of the profession sacrificed a lot, and cleared the pathway for you to achieve your destiny. You, too, can contribute to that worthy legacy by upholding the dignity of the profession.”
