The airlifting of intending pilgrims from Kano State kicked off Monday with the first batch of 550 passengers set to depart Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, for King International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Our correspondent gathered that 3,100 intending pilgrims registered with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to perform this year’s spiritual exercise from Kano.
Bidding the pilgrims fare well before their departure, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reminded the pilgrims to be worthy ambassadors of Kano in particular and Nigeria.
Yusuf specifically cautioned pilgrims from getting closer to any dangerous substances, especially items under the prohibition list of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Yusuf who reminded the pilgrims of zero tolerance for theft of public and or, private property, added that there would not be any hiding place for any crime.
He urged the faithful to pray for peace and tranquility in Kano and Nigeria.
“As you set your foot to depart Kano for Saudi Arabia, you are new representing Kano and the country. You must be of exemplary conduct and worthy ambassador of Nigeria in the holy Land,” Yusuf said.
“Please avoid any act prohibited by the Saudi government especially dangerous substances that can put you in serious trouble. In Saudi, there is no room for appeal on offenses related to drug abuse. Please be mindful of your conduct.
“Theft is another critical offense prohibited in Saudi Arabia you need to be mindful about. There is CCT camera almost everywhere watching and mounting surveillance on everyone. So no hidden place. Above all, please pray for your country.”
Earlier, the Director General, Kano state Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Laminu Danbappa, disclosed the inaugural flight of Kano onboard Max Airline is prepared for seamless operation.
Danbappa disclosed that pilgrims of from Dala, Gwale, Ungogo and Fagge local government areas are leading the journey with 550 passengers.
