The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Khadija Bukar Ibrahim, has said the recession of Lake Chad by 1,250 per cent would make 40 million people in West Africa vulnerable to poverty and unemployment.
The most affected countries are Nigeria, Chad, Niger, Cameroun and Central African Republic of Congo (DRC) which belong to the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).

Ibrahim raised the alarm yesterday at a three-day workshop on “Water Resources and Sustainable Environmental Management in the ECOWAS Region” organised by the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
