Abubakar reiterates commitment to improving girl-child education

• As AFGCS, Jos converted to Air Force Girls Military School
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Sadique Abubakar has reiterated the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) commitment to improving the standard of education in NAF schools, particularly the education of the girl-child.

He also said arrangements have been concluded to convert the Airforce Girls Comprehensive School (AFGCS), Jos to Airforce Girls Military School (AFGMS).

Abubakar stated this at the closing ceremony of the second edition of the CAS Inter-NAF Secondary Schools Debate and Quiz Competition held at the Airforce Girls Comprehensive School, NAF base, Abuja, said it was part of efforts aimed at improving the girl child education.

The competition saw Airforce Secondary School Port Harcourt coming first place, while Irobusi Gloria from same school emerged best speaker.

ACS, Ibadan took second while AMS, Jos emerged third. The students debated on the topic: “Can EFCC/ICPC Eliminate Corruption In Nigeria?

In the quiz competition, ACC, Uyo emerged best with ASS, Ikeja taking second position while AMS, Jos came third. Abubakar, who was excited with the performance of the students, said their investment in education was yielding good results.

On why AFGCS Jos will be converted to AFGMS, Abubakar said educating the girl child contributes significantly to the development of a stable, prosperous and healthy nation whose citizens are active, productive and empowered.

The NAF director of education, Air Commodore Sani Naiya, said the competition was designed to improve the performance of students, adding that the best were selected to represent their various schools.
