Youths were given the opportunity to display their creativity at the Climate Tech Innovation Exhibition that took place in Lagos with the topic: “Generation Green: Youth-Led Climate Tech for sustainability” where they displayed their products with the aid of technology, despite the effect of climate change.
The event was an avenue that connected the young innovators with mentors, investors and potential partners. They also had the privilege of expanding their horizon of creativity with the experienced resource persons that addressed them and equipped them with nuggets that despite the climate change they could take advantage of technology to achieve more and maximise their potentials.
Speaking at the event, ActionAid Project Advisor under Strategic Partnership Project Part II, Blessing Ifemenam, said that the reason for the exhibition was to assist the youths who are taking the advantage of technology to come up with innovations through connecting them with the stakeholders and woe the government to assist them financially.
“We have been implementing this type of project since 2022 and not just in Lagos but in some other states in Nigeria and discovered a lot of young people have been doing amazing things in the climate space.
“Young people are innovative, hence we have brought together private sector and the government to dialogue on the way the government can support them. A lot of them do not have access to funding and the government needs to assist them,” she said.
An environmentalist for over 40 years, Desmond Majekodunmi said climate change is the basic problem facing humanity. The young ones need to know that their future is at stake according to Secretary General of United Nations as climate change has become catastrophic. However, the succor is that it is not too late to change things with the aid of technology and the youth should go for it because the future belongs to them.
Director, Youth Development Lagos State, Saka Abdulateef who represented Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Bolaji Korede, said all that the youth in Nigeria need is the push as they have the ability to thrive with the aid of technology and expressed the belief that if they get all the encouragement, the sky is not their limit.
