AFBA seeks probe of Delta NBA chief’s murder

Austin IchegeThe African Bar Association (AFBA) has condemned the murder of the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ughelli branch, Delta State, Austin Ichege, and called for probe by the police.

President of the AFBA, Hannibal Uwaifo, in a statement yesterday, urged the Federal Government, Delta State government, the state police command and all other security agencies to investigate the killing to check what he called “monstrous challenge by criminal minded persons in the society.”

He described Ichege murder as “one too hard to comprehend by any person with good conscience,” stressing that “the perpetrators of this criminal murder must be fished out to face the full weight of the law”.

The AFBA, which expressed concern that Ichege was murdered in front of his house, enjoined Nigerians to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to check criminal activities in the society.

The group promised to partner sall relevant agencies in digging into the root of the crime towards exposing those behind the dastardly act. “We in the African Bar Association are appalled by this sad and bizarre murder of Mr. Ichege who was a legal practitioner of note and sound disposition.

All hands must be on deck to also frustrate the criminal activities of hoodlums in the society in order to make the society a safe place for legitimate businesses to thrive,” the statement added.
