African lawyers appoint Nigerian as anti-graft adviser

As a way of supporting the anti-corruption drive of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and other African countries, the African Bar Association (AFBA) Monday said it has appointed a Nigerian activist, who is the Executive Director, Africa Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor, as its senior adviser on corruption and governance.

A statement by the Media Director of the association, Samuel Abasilim, made available to journalists in Benin City said the President of the association, Hannibal Uwaifo, confirmed the appointment and said Ugolor was “in the best position to assist AFBA in attaining its goal of zero tolerance to corruption and bad governance presently bedevilling African countries.”

The statement said Ugolor would help identify areas of capacity building for members of AFBA and equally identify training opportunities, “exchange programmes, fellowships and scholarship opportunities for members as well as developing policy guidelines for the association’s work on public advocacy, lobbying and education”
