One of Nigeria’s representatives in this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, Akwa United, has crashed out of the race.

Also sent packing from the competition were Burkina’s USFA and Mali’s AS Bakaridjan. They bowed out on penalties.

After enjoying a 1-0 away win at Vita Club Mokanda in the first leg of their preliminary round tie, Akwa United fell at home against the Congolese with the same score line before ending up on the losing end.

USFA suffered a similar fate against Morocco’s Kawkab Marrakech despite turning around a three-goal first leg deficit in front of their home crowd, while Stade Gabèsien edged AS Bakaridjan from the spot in Tunisia after the two sides drew 2-2 on aggregate.

Egyptian outfit, Misr El-Makasa and South Africa’s representative Bidvest Wits cruised to the next round after sealing an aggregate thrashing of Ethiopia’s Defence Force (6-1) and Seychelles’ Light Stars (9-0) respectively, while Bidvest’s PSL rivals Ajax Cape Town bid farewell to the tournament after suffering a 0-2 home loss to Sagrada Esperanca of Angola.

The second Nigeria’s representative, Nasarawa United, Africa Sports (Côte d’Ivoire), Renaissance (Chad), Atlético Olympic (Burundi) and Villa SC (Uganda) have also progressed, while the game between Niger’s AS SONIDEP and Libya’s Al-Ittihad Tripoli has been postponed.
