Al Makura fulfils N20m pledge to traders

GOVERNOR Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has presented a cheque of N20 million to traders of Mararaba Orange Market in Karu Council Area in fulfillment of his pledge.

The governor pledged N20 million to the traders during his one-week working visit to Karu in appreciation of their effort in acquiring a new land to relocate the market.

Presenting the cheque to the leader of the market, Alhaji Baba Aliyu at the Government House, the governor, commended the traders for complementing government effort towards curtailing the issue of congestion that has often characterized the popular Mararraba Orange Market, which prompted them to build another market on their own.
The governor said he was impressed by their actions “after complying with the directive to keep off the road they acquired another land and decided to embark on the construction of a new market.”
Al-Makura explained that it was as a result of their effort to relocate to a conducive environment that he decided to assist them to make the new market look more befitting.

He then tasked other groups and individuals in the state to emulate the traders at the orange market, saying, “Government will not relent in supporting such effort.

The governor said the state government would also wave all land titles due to the market, just as it will ensure that the traders are provided with the land documents.

Al – Makura equally lauded the traders at the Lafia main market for successfully relocating to the modern market, while assuring them that the informal sector of the Lafia International Market will be completed and open for business.

Appreciating the gesture on behalf of other traders, Alhaji Baba Aliyu commended Gov Al-Makura and assured that the N20 million will be used judiciously.

He said the donation and the land waiver would help them in no small measure to achieve their aim of constructing a befitting market of their own.

The governor last week concluded his working visit to Karu Council Area in Western district of the state as part of a series of visits throughout the district examining economic and social development of the region.

The week-long working visit, which started from Monday 24th to Friday 28th August was part of the governor’s initiative to enhance the socio-economic potentials of the area.
