Angry mob assault policeman for pushing man into moving BRT bus

Scene of the incident

A yet-to-be-identified police officer was, yesterday, beaten to stupor by an angry mob in Lagos.

The police officer was assaulted for allegedly pushing a civilian, identified as Yusuf, into a moving Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle at Ketu.

It was gathered that the incident, which happened at Ketu Bus Stop, left Yusuf’s left arm badly injured.

An eyewitness said the officer and his colleague were attempting to dispossess Yusuf of his vehicle when they forced Yusuf into the BRT lane.

In the process, one of the BRT buses plying the lane rammed into Yusuf and he collapsed due to impacts of the crash.

The eyewitness, Kinsley Abba, blamed the officers for Yusuf’s ordeal, adding that he sustained several other injuries as a result of the accident.

He said: “It was the angry mob that beat the police officer till he fainted. The most annoying thing was that the officers picked their colleague and rushed him to the hospital but left Yusuf to suffer. The man was left unconscious on the road.”

Another eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said the police officers, after realising that Yusuf had been crushed by the BRT, attempted to flee the scene, but the angry mob apprehended one of them and beat him to stupor.
