APC chieftain berates Okurounmu over comment on Buhari

A CHIEFTAIN of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Chief Bode Mustapha has responded to a claim by the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Advisory Committee on National Conference, Senator Femi Okurounmu that the Yoruba would forever regret for voting for President Muhammadu Buhari in the March, 28 Presidential election.

According Mustapha, the Yoruba nation would have no cause to regret voting for the President, because Buhari had started on a good note, which had received applause from all fair-minded Nigerians, insisting, “not even Okurounmu’s ward in Abeokuta South Local Council Area of Ogun State, will regret voting massively for the ruling party, talk less of Ogun State and the entire Yoruba nation”.

Mustapha, who spoke in Abeokuta, yesterday in reaction to a claim by Okurounmu to the effect that the Yoruba made a wrong choice by voting for President Buhari and would, therefore ,forever live to regret, described the leading member of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Afenifere as “inconsistent and self-seeking politician, whose antecedent at his homestead further nailed the PDP coffin in Ogun during the last general elections.”

“I had thought the likes of Sen. Okurounmu and his other anti progressives elements who guaranteed the former President of winning Yoruba states for him will just go and bury their heads in shame, and perhaps return whatever incentives collected as part of their acclaimed integrity, but, the contrary is the case.”

According to him: “The question is which credibility does he have to say Yoruba will regret voting President Buhari? When already his primary constituency at Abeokuta South is lamenting his alleged role in the Jonathan saga.”

Mustapha said the outburst notwithstanding, the Yoruba is very much confident of getting the best of governance from the current administration, “which we are already getting with the unprecedented improvement in electricity, the sanity we are all seeing in the public service among others. Mind you, the President even acknowledged that the electricity improvement was not his making, but, we all know that but for his emergence, the cabal running down the sector would not have had a change of mind. That is integrity, credibility and that is confidence, which every discerning Yoruba is proud of at this early stage of the administration.”

On the claim that the APC in the South West should be feeling uncomfortable with the recent appointments made by the President, Mustapha, who was also the Director General of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Campaign Organisation in the governorship election, wondered why Okurounmu, “who could not stand a popularity test with a youthful APC member in his council area today, would be giving remarks, so childish and premature.”

Meanwhile, Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun yesterday urged residents of the state to keep hope alive, assuring that the current challenges across the country “are but a passing phase.”

The governor reiterated his support for the policies and programmes of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “they (policies) will bring within our reach and attainment the dreams of our people for a happy and prosperous nation.”

In a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, the governor thanked the people of the state for their “abiding faith” in his administration.
