The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of exploiting the recent terrorist attack in Malumfashi, Katsina State, for political gain, describing the opposition party’s comments as “highly opportunistic and grossly insensitive.”
In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party rejected ADC’s assertion that the country should remain passive in the face of security threats. APC said such claims demonstrated a lack of understanding of government operations.
“ADC’s suggestion that the country must remain grounded and go nowhere but sit in anticipation of attacks by shadowy forces of terror is remarkably lame and senseless,” the statement read. “It shows the ADC to be without any understanding of government and its workings.”
Morka further contended that the opposition party’s focus on what he called “unproductive indulgence in peddling false narratives and obscene propaganda” was indicative of its poor showing in recent bye-elections, where the ADC reportedly recorded no victories.
The statement highlighted the Tinubu administration’s ongoing security initiatives, noting recent successes in counter-terrorism operations. “It was just a few days ago that Boko Haram founder’s son and two Ansaru leaders were captured in joint Nigeria-Chad raids, which have been widely hailed as major anti-terrorism breakthroughs,” Morka said.
He stressed that President Bola Tinubu’s strategic international engagements were aimed at attracting foreign investment, strengthening security partnerships, and securing military support to combat terrorism and other crimes.
“While the ADC engages in worthless rhetoric, the APC-led administration is actively working with security agencies to track down the perpetrators of these dastardly acts and bring safety and closure to our people,” Morka said.
The statement outlined measures implemented by the government, including a review of the National Security Strategy, increased defence spending, enhanced regional and international intelligence cooperation, and community-based interventions to address local insecurity.
“The APC remains focused on delivering solutions and will not be distracted by mischievous political theatrics that are the staple of chatterbox ADC. We urge all stakeholders to support the administration’s determined efforts to secure our nation. May God protect our troops as they defend our dear homeland,” the statement added.
