Appoint new humanitarian minister, group urges Tinubu

The Concerned Northern Forum (CNF) has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to urgently appoint a new minister to oversee the activities of the Humanitarian Ministry.

The CNF stressed the need for a competent and selfless leader to fill this critical role, especially given the current administration’s unfavourable policies affecting the most vulnerable Nigerians.

In a statement, the Chairman of the Forum, Aliu Sanni Mohammed, noted that President Tinubu’s administration is tasked with addressing complex social issues, and the prolonged vacancy only worsens the challenges faced by those in need.

He said: “The humanitarian ministry plays a vital role in coordinating relief efforts, addressing poverty, and implementing programs that support millions of citizens struggling to make ends meet.

“With ongoing economic challenges and rising levels of poverty, the absence of effective leadership in this ministry has dire implications for the welfare of many Nigerians.”

The CNF stressed that Nigerians now, more than ever, require a strong advocate within the government to address humanitarian crises, provide social safety nets, and implement policies to uplift marginalised communities.

Mohammed added, “The implications of leaving this ministry vacant are far-reaching. Vulnerable populations are suffering without the necessary support and resources.

“We call upon President Tinubu to expedite the appointment of a new minister who possesses the integrity, expertise, and commitment to serve the Nigerian populace effectively.”

The CNF believes that appointing a dedicated minister is crucial to restoring public confidence and ensuring that essential humanitarian programs continue without disruption.

They urge the federal government to prioritise this appointment and reaffirm its commitment to addressing the pressing needs of citizens, particularly those grappling with poverty and social injustice.
