Army ready for synergy to fight insecurity, says OPWS commander

Nigerian Army

Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Maj-Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia, has said the Nigerian Army is willing to work with relevant security agencies in safeguarding the country.

He stated this, yesterday, in his speech at the inauguration of 4 Special Forces (SF) Command Operation Planning Cadre for Officers in Makurdi, Benue State.
The General charged the participants to make optimum use of the training to understand the dynamics of proper synergy, collaboration and sound coordination of operations with other security agencies.

He said the Army would never shirk its responsibility of protecting the country against insurgency, banditry, farmers-herders’ clashes, kidnapping and militancy among other security challenges that threaten its corporate existence.
“To this end, all personnel must possess the requisite capacity and competence to effectively tackle these challenges through the deliberate understanding and employment of principles and planning procedures for operations.
“The planning cadre seeks to enhance the capacity and broaden the knowledge of participants on operational planning, processes and tactical approach to warfare,” he said.

Igbinomwanhia expressed hope that the intellectual discourse during the training would provide useful policy options for contemporary and future operations of the Army.
He appreciated the governors of Benue and Nasarawa states for their cooperation with the Army and for providing a conducive environment in their domains for ease of operation.

Earlier, the Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Maj-Gen. Hilary Nzan, had said the policy on collaboration was in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Command Philosophy to transform the Army into a well-trained, equipped and highly-motivated force towards achieving the constitutional responsibilities within a collaborative operational environment.

He said the modules of the course were carefully designed to train and equip the officers with operations’ planning essentials to actualise the Army’s goals and objectives.
