Benin royal family suspends Enogie of Evbuobanosa Dukedom
The Benin Royal Family, yesterday, directed members of the family not to relate, associate or engage with the embattled Prof. Gregory Idurobo Akenzua for as long as he remains suspended from the royal family.
In an interview with The Guardian, Akenzua said that he was yet to get details of the suspension and members of the family who suspended him, promising to address the press at the appropriate time on the matter.
Akenzua, the Enogie (Duke) of Evbuobanosa Dukedom, in Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State, was said to have been suspended by His Royal Majesty, Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, from duty over allegations of leading rebellion against the Benin throne.
Briefing newsmen at the Secretariat of Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the spokesperson for the family, Prince George Eweka, led by the Head, Benin Royal Family (Odion Egbe), Okao Augustine Eweka, confirmed that Akenzua was suspended from the family for his acts of rebellion against the Benin traditional institution.
Eweka said: “It has come to the notice and attention of the Benin Royal Family that Akenzua, a member of the family, has chosen to challenge the Benin traditional institution through acts that are utterly at variance with customs and tradition of the Benin people, as well as the core values of the Benin Royal Family.”
