Britarch, NTIC, Pacesetters excel at K.I.O Consult Abuja Inter-Schools Athletics Championship

Britarch Schools, Lugbe, Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) and Pacesetters’ School, Wuye, are the top three schools at the inaugural K.I.O Consult Abuja Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship (AISSAC) 2022.

Britarch Schools, Lugbe, Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) and Pacesetters’ School, Wuye, are the top three schools at the inaugural K.I.O Consult Abuja Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship (AISSAC) 2022.

Britarch won six gold and two silver medals to top the medals chart at the one-day meet held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja and conducted in line with global athletics standards.

NTIC placed second with three gold and three silver medals, while Pacesetters’ School earned three gold and one bronze medals to finish third.
 
Over 700 athletes drawn from 14 FCT schools participated in the event, which featured 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x 100m Relay, 4x 400m Relay, 4x 400m (Mixed Relay), Long Jump and Shot Put.

Britarch School won the boys 100m, 400m and Long Jump events. Tobenna Nwafor finished the 100m sprint at 11.75 seconds, while Odida Daniel won the 400m race at 55.64 seconds, just as Jumilo Wahab won the Long Jump contest with a leap of 5.89m.

Eric Makwe of Pacesetters’ School won the 200m boys race in a time of 24.16 seconds.
Zainab Idris Abubakar of NTIC won the 100m girls race in a time of 13.02 seconds, while later in the day, she added the long jump gold to her collection, leaping a distance of 4.77m.

Miracle Ezechukwu of NTIC won the 200m girls race in a time of 27.12 seconds, while Chinenye Okuefuna of GAAT International School won the 400m girls race in a time of 73.67. 

AISSEC 2002 convener, Kesiena Oghoghorie, expressed delight that the maiden event lived up to its billing.

He promised that the next edition will be bigger and better, saying the organisers have learnt from the first edition, which is aimed at identifying and grooming talents from the schools.
