Colours, culture, thrill at Lagos Igbo Hangout

It was a feast of exciting cultural showcases, last Sunday, as the Lagos Igbo community in Lagos, held its sophomore edition of the Lagos Igbo Hangout, in line with its tradition of fostering social cohesion and national unity.

The fiesta, which held at the FHA arena in Festac, one of the city’s largest Igbo-speaking hubs, witnessed attractions like beauty pageants, state-based parades, dance competitions, masquerade shows, as well as riveting music performances from Eastern music trailblazers including Highstarlavista, Anyafulugo, among others.

“The #LagosIgboHangout was born out of dire need for igbos in lagos to come together under one umbrella and be unified with a common goal and have the privilege to meet their brothers and sisters forging greater bonds, connections and helping one another in the spirit of ‘onye aghana nwanneya’ (Leave no one behind) ,” the organizer Mpa Favour Ogbuji, noted.

According to him, the show was inspired by “the need for a more compact and closely knitted community” among Igbos in Lagos.

Among the confirmed dignitaries in attendance included the Cabinet of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Old Festac Boys, as well as representatives from the ministry of culture and tourism.

He further emphasized that the “#LagosIgboHangout seeks to foster unity among Nigerians,” especially in a cosmopolitan society like Lagos, noting that it would remain a value exchange point between the Igbo community and other ethnic groups in the state.
