Commissioner resigns as group warns of impending chaos in Kano
The pioneer Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services in Kano State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Inuwa Idris (rtd), has resigned from his appointment. The reasons for the action were unknown at press time.
A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, which confirmed the development, added that Governor Abba Yusuf had accepted the resignation. The governor was quoted as expressing his deep gratitude to the retired military officer for his service to the state during his short tenure and acknowledging his contributions to the ministry’s initial take-off.
IN a related development, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), Kano Concerned Citizens, has issued a strong warning to the citizens regarding potential unrest during the upcoming Sallah festivities.
Its Chairman, Haliru Baba, in an interview in Kano yesterday, claimed that there was a deliberate trap to incite discord within the state. The group blamed the Federal Government over what it called its “complicity in making peace difficult to achieve in our dear state.”
It stated that the ongoing Emirship tussle in the state was not merely a local issue but one that undermines the very essence of federalism in the country.
