DAWN, firm move to launch digital agricultural land bank

In a bold step to unlock the vast economic potential buried beneath Nigeria’s dormant farmlands, especially across the South-West, the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission has forged a strategic alliance with an agricultural technology firm, AgroXchange, to launch a Digital Agricultural Land Bank.

This initiative, more than just a platform, promises to revolutionise land ownership and investment in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. Also, by combining cutting-edge technology with data-driven insights, it offers zero-risk, science-backed opportunities to landowners and investors both at home and in the Diaspora.

Head of Agricultural Desk at DAWN, Dr Tolu Fadoju, who spoke on the initiative in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, yesterday, said the initiative would address one of Nigeria’s long-standing agricultural challenges: the underutilisation of vast arable land, adding that the digital land bank connects verified landowners with credible investors through a robust ecosystem powered by land suitability assessments, geospatial mapping, and legally-sound documentation.

According to him, “This initiative marks a paradigm shift in how we view and use farmland in Nigeria. It’s not just about linking land and capital, we are also equipping landowners with scientific tools to make informed decisions while giving investors the transparency and security they need.

“At its core, the platform delivers a suite of land intelligence and investment-readiness services. These include detailed land use classification, flood risk and topographic mapping, soil nutrient analysis, drainage profiling, infrastructure access audits, and development planning.”

“Each parcel of land—once enrolled—is meticulously profiled, enabling both landowners and investors to assess its agricultural potential and long-term viability with precision.

“For landowners, particularly those with plots exceeding 10 hectares, the land bank offers a zero-risk investment framework. All legal, environmental, and technical documentation is professionally handled by the platform. More importantly, it promises sustained income streams across the entire lifecycle of the land’s agricultural use.”

DAWN highlighted the platform’s significance for millions of Nigerians in the Diaspora, many of whom have long yearned to invest in agriculture back home but have been deterred by fraud, ownership disputes, and unreliable local partners.

“This is the secure, verified, tech-enabled channel they’ve been waiting for. We are targeting serious investors who want to operate at scale, and for that, we offer the most comprehensive land suitability data available in Nigeria today,” Fadoju added.

Meanwhile, interested landowners, both within Nigeria and abroad, can begin the onboarding process through the secure portal: bit.ly/LANDBANKREG.

DAWN is a regional development agency focused on unlocking economic potential and driving sustainable innovation across the six South-West states, while AgroXchange is a technology-driven agricultural firm dedicated to transforming Nigeria’s value chains.
