Defections may lead to anarchy, says presbyterian prelate

The Prelate/Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Most Rev. Nzie Nsi Eke, has said the rate of political defections may push the country into anarchy.

And if this should happen, he said God and prosperity would hold them responsible for crumbling the country’s hard-earned democracy.

He made the statement at the weekend in Hope Waddell Parish, Calabar, while briefing newsmen on the forthcoming 23rd General Assembly meeting to mark the 172 years of effective ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, which began on Friday.

Worried over the state of insecurity in the country, Eke said President Muhammadu Buhari, being the Commander-in-Chief, has all it takes to revamp what he described as the “security architecture in Nigeria.”

While charging members to be actively involved in politics, he said they should get their permanent voters card (PVCs) ready to enable them influence society better.

On current development of the church, he said: “The church intends to take quality educational mission to a new level, through building a university to be named after the pioneer missionary, Hope Waddell.

I am strongly convinced that the project is achievable.

The proposed Hope Waddell University aims at producing new generation of leaders and citizens, who will be broadly educated and spiritually-equipped.”
