Djokovic targets full slam set
AUSTRALIAN Open champion, Novak Djokovic, has set his sights on winning the French Open to complete a full set of grand slam titles. The world number one beat Andy Murray in Sunday’s final for his fifth Australian Open crown and eighth grand slam title, adding to his two Wimbledon victories and the US Open in 2011.
He has yet to win at Roland Garros after losing twice in the final to nine-time champion, Rafael Nadal, who has lost just once at the clay-court event during his career.
Djokovic hopes to dethrone Nadal this year but admits it won’t be easy against the Spaniard.
“That’s something that makes it more difficult in terms of winning against Nadal, he has lost only one match in his entire career, which is probably the most impressive record in tennis history of all time,” the Serbian told reporters.
“It’s very important (winning the French Open), but if I don’t succeed in doing that in my career it’s not the end of the world, but I am definitely going to keep on trying. I have been very very close and that allows me to believe I can make that final step and that’s something that keeps me going.”
Djokovic reached the French Open final in 2014 and won the first set against Nadal, who recovered to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 for his ninth Roland Garros crown.
