Doctors commence strike over salaries
FOR an alleged refusal by the Delta State Government to “implement senior registrars one salary and arrears” for resident doctors at the state-owned University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), institution’s Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) has begun an indefinite strike at Oghara.
Its President, Dr. Innocent Okocha, told The Guardian yesterday that his members were miffed by government’s stance, adding that efforts to resolve the crisis through dialogue since last year had not yielded desired outcome.
Senior registrars are resident doctors who passed their part one examinations in either the West African College of Physicians/Surgeons or the National Postgraduate Medical College as part of their residency training.
Okocha said the state government had declined to appropriately remunerate them after successful completion of their programme.
